Ahman, John Mark

John Mark Ahmann, 53, of Lincoln, died Friday, November 4, 2011. He was born in Carroll, Iowa on June 3, 1958 to Mark and Helen (Schmitz) Ahmann.

John is survived by his parents, Mark and Jane Ahmann, of Wayne, Neb.; sons and daughter-in-law, Mark and Desiree Ahmann, Alex Ahmann; daughter, Trisha Ahmann, all of Lincoln; brother and sister-in-law, David and Sue Ahmann, of Lincoln; sister, Lisa Ahmann, of Lincoln; one grandchild, Izac Osborne, of Lincoln. John is preceded in death by his wife, Diana Simet.

Graveside Service will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Denton Sunnyside Cemetery in Denton, Neb. with Rev. Dan Morrow officiating. No visitation. Austin, Dean Alan

Dean Alan Austin, 69, of Lincoln, died on June 29, 2011. He was born in Mount Horeb, Wis. to Curtis and Margaret Austin. Dean graduated from Mt. Horeb High School where he excelled in basketball. Dean continued his education and basketball career at the University of Wisconsin where his team won the conference championship twice, and Dean was named to the NAIA All-American Team. In 1963 he went back to school and earned his masters degree in health and physical education and coached basketball at Boys Technical School in Milwaukee and Northland College in Ashland, Wis. He then taught at the University of Wisconsin before becoming the athletic director. While at Green Bay, Dean earned his doctorate degree and became the health and P.E. consultant at Lincoln Public Schools where he worked until he retired.

A Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2011, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church located at 109 S 6th Street in Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin. Visitation will be prior to the service, 9:30-10:15 a.m., at the Church. Burial will be 2 p.m. July 16, 2011 at Saint Ignatius Calvary Cemetery.

Bady, Charlene

Charlene J. Bady, 59, of Lincoln, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2011. She was born November 24, 1951 in Grand Island to Charles and Jeannie (Meahan) Lewis. Charlene was fondly known as "Charle". She was a Registered Nurse for the past 34 years, a calling that she was dedicated too, and dearly loved. In order to achieve the highest level of proficiency, she worked and studied very hard and obtained a Masters degree in her chosen profession. Charle had a heart of gold, and she was an extremely loving; caring, and compassionate individual that placed her in the "Wonderful Person" category in the eyes of her family; friends; co-workers and the many patients that she served. She will always be remembered and greatly missed.

Charle is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Jeannie and Stanley Snow of Eaton, Colo.; four nieces and nephews, Heather and Cory Dimmitt; Shawn Snow and his better half Elaine; Jonathan and Megan Snow; Anthony Snow and his better half Melanie; eight great-nieces and nephews; Dominick, Haden, Daphne, Carson, McKayla, Cayden, Kyrie, and Riley, all of whom reside in Colorado. Charle was preceded in death by Joe Goucher, her soul mate of 15 years; mother, father, grandparents, William and Beth Meahan; and her dear aunties, Alice Munson and Betty Meahan.

Memorial service will be held 12 p.m. Sunday March 13, 2011 at Wadlow Rozanek Funeral Home 5200 'R' Street, Lincoln with Pastor Eddie Masters officiating. Bair, Harley Junior

Harley Junior Bair, 89, of Lincoln, died on Monday, March 28, 2011, in the care center of Eastmont Towers, after struggling with dementia for some time. Harley was born on a farm near Fairmont on December 7, 1921 to Harley M. and Gertrude (Plock) Bair. He graduated from Fairmont High School in 1939 and then worked for his room and board with his great uncle in Ord, where he learned to be a machinist. In 1941 he was hired by Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kan. in the tooling division and helped develop the Boeing B-29 bomber. Harley married Doris Elaine Green in 1942. They had two children, Gordon and Susan. In 1955, Harley and Doris started Bair Machine Company and manufactured, among other things, shot shell and rifle reloading equipment for hunters and sportsman, which were shipped worldwide. Harley then started Bair Investment Company, a commercial real estate development company. Harley has been a Nebraska State Real Estate Broker since 1979.

His first wife, Doris, preceded Harley in death after 44 years of marriage. Before her death, they began a softball park for girls. It was completed after Doris' death and was named Doris Bair Memorial Park. Harley and Shirley (Vrba) Shull were married in 1987. Soon after, she also became active in his business and continues to do the bookkeeping for the real estate operation. Harley was an Elder and member of First Presbyterian Church, Lincoln for over 60 years. Harley also held memberships in a number of organizations: Diplomats, a world trade organization; Lincoln Chamber of Commerce; Lincoln Executive Club; LIBA-Lincoln Independent Business Association; Lincoln East Rotary; George Washington Masonic Lodge #250 for over 50 years; Sesostris Shrine; Scottish Rite Mason and Lincoln Moose Lodge #175. Harley was appreciative of the awards he received for his many philanthropic gifts: KFOR Vince Aldrich Sportsman of the Year Award for 1993-94; 2006 Outstanding Citizen by Lincoln East Rotary and Service to Mankind Award from Gateway Sertoma Club in 2007.

Harley is survived by his wife, Shirley; son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Jo Anne Bair, Lincoln; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Seth Mason, Chicago; Grandchildren: Amanda Bair, Beaver Lake; Cynthia Bair Van Dam and her husband Brad Van Dam, Washington D.C.; Ashley Mason and fiance, Evan Drake, Tucson, Ariz.; Eric Mason, Decatur, Ill.; Step-children: Cindy and Russ Lloyd, Lincoln; Richard and Kimberly Shull, London, England; Robert Shull, Omaha; Grandchildren: Scott Lloyd, Lincoln and Jessica Lloyd, Minneapolis; Aunt, Alberta (Plock) Weber, Exeter; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his, father Harley M. Bair, mother Gertrude (Plock) Bair Cantrell and her spouse, Alkana Cantrell; sister, Beth Lorene (Bair) Beardsley and her spouse, Pete Beardsley.

The family would like to thank Dr. James Fosnaugh for his wonderful care for over 25 years; all of the caring staff at Eastmont Towers, the many TLC caregivers and the hospice staff from Tabitha, for their loving care these past months.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church 17th & F Streets, Lincoln with Rev. Dr. Brent O. Johnston officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 3, 2011 from 1-8 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Wadlow Rozanek Funeral Home, 5200 'R' Street, Lincoln. A private family burial will precede the memorial service. Family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations in Harley's memory be made to Lancaster Youth Softball Association; First Presbyterian Foundation-Appreciation Fund; or Eastmont Towers Foundation. 










Barneke, Dorothy Jean

Dorothy Jean Barneke, 53, of Lincoln, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2011. 

 

Dorothy was born in Lincoln on September 23, 1957, to Willard and Donna Barneke. She was a homemaker and lifetime resident of Lincoln.  Dorothy will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

 

She is survived by her children Jason (Kerry) and Christopher Killen of Lincoln and preceded in death by her parents.   

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 from 12 to 8 pm at Wadlow Rozanek Funeral Home, 5200 R Street in Lincoln.    There will be a Funeral Service held on Wednesday September 7, 2011 at 2:00 pm. at Wadlow Rozanek Funeral Home.

Barrette, Diane L.

Diane Lyle Barrette, 71, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2011.

She was born in Valentine, Nebraska on January 7, 1940 to Lyle and Sophia (White) Kunselman.   Diane helped many as a professional counselor.  Her hobbies were photography, gardening and music.  

Diane was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend.  She will be missed dearly.  Diane is survived by her daughters, Michelle Waite, of Lincoln; Nicholle Soukup, of Norfolk, Nebraska; grandchildren, Cody Waite, of Fort Campbell, Kentucky;

Logan Waite, of Lincoln; Shaena Bauer, of Lincoln; Seth Ford, of Lincoln; Matthew Lautenschlager, of North Aurora, IL; Haleigh Kappel, of Lincoln; Holden Soukup, of Norfolk, Nebraska; great grandchildren, Peyton Ford, Kali Richardson, Reece Richardson, Grace Rademacher.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Kellie Ford.

A memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 29, 2011 at The Columns at Pioneers Park, South Coddington Avenue, Lincoln with Deacon Christine Grosh officiating.  Inurnment will be at a later date in Valentine, Nebraska.

Becker, William Edward

William Edward Becker, 92, passed away Saturday May 21, 2011. Born in Cleveland, Ohio to William and Meta (Bretschneider) Becker. Served in U.S. Army Air Corps during W.W.II.

Survived by daughter, Jill E. Blakeley of Henderson, Nev.; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Becker of Goodyear, Ariz.; sister, Mary Warner of Des Moines, Iowa.

Bedlion, SueAnn

SueAnn Bedlion, 47, of Lincoln, passed away on Saturday August 6, 2011.

She was born to Wayne and Edna (Detgen) Hill on December 30, 1963 in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota.  As a small child the family moved to Norfolk, Nebraska.  On September 11, 1988, Sue was united in marriage to Scot Keane Bedlion and to this union one daughter was born.  Sue worked for years in the food service business and was a great cook.  She loved The Rolling Stones and Halloween and her collection of cow figurines.

She is survived by her daughter, Jadean Bedlion; sisters and brother-in-law, LeAnn (Hill) and Steve Crawford, of Lynch, NE; Julane Hill, of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Deb Hill of Colorado Springs, CO.; nieces, nephews and one grand nephew.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Leon J. Hill.

Gary Lee Beenblossom, 51, of Lincoln, died on Sunday, August 14, 2011.

Berg, Jacqueline "Jackie"

Jacqueline "Jackie" Joy Salter Berg, 73, of Lincoln, Neb., passed on October, 18th, 2011. Jackie, as she was known to friends and loved ones, was born on February 13th, 1938, in Missouri Valley, Iowa to Raymond and Violet Salter. Jackie graduated from the Mercy School of Nursing, in Omaha, NE in 1959.

She served her life working in the nursing field as an RN. Upon her retirement, Jackie spent her time in service to others as a volunteer at Clinic With a Heart, Matt Talbott's Kitchen, and The Center for People in Need.

Jackie led a full life, spending time with her children and friends. She was an avid traveller, journeying from Europe to California to Florida, and all points inbetween. She was much loved by all who knew her, and her energy and compassion were an inspiration to all those she met.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Duane Salter, and her sister-in-law Linda Salter. Jackie is survived by her three children: John Berg and his fiancee Debbie, of Lincoln; Chris Berg and his partner Dennis of Kansas City; and Nancy Berg and her husband Brian of Chicago. She is also survived by her brothers: Norman "Bud" Salter and his wife Shirley; Dan Salter and his wife Sherrie and Richard "Glen" Salter and his wife Carol; her former husband Roger Berg; and her beloved grandchildren Jazmine and Ezekiel Alcala.

Viewing will be on Tuesday, Oct. 25th at Wadlow Rozanek Funeral Home, 5200 R Street, Lincoln, 402-467-5200, from 7-9 p.m. Memorial service will be on Thursday, Oct. 27th at the Wadlow Rozanek Funeral Home at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Clinic With a Heart (www.clinicwithaheart.org) where Jackie worked as a volunteer helping those in need.

 




 


Berner, Johnnie

Johnnie Berner, 78, of Lincoln, died Tuesday February 15, 2011.  He was Born 
December 19, 1932 in Bloomfield, Neb. to John and Forest (Barber) Berner. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Johnnie was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of The Masonic Lodge.

Survived by his wife, Beverly; son, Jerry Berner of Randolph, Neb.; daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Steve Harris of Topeka, Kan.; step-daughters and son-in-law, Cheryl and Dave Wilder of Bothel, Wash.; Dina Bynum of Beaumont, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Kaye Berner of Randolph, Neb.; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Melvin Poppe of Niobrara; Charlotte and Larry Keifer of Randolph; sister-in-law, Clarette Berner of Belden, Neb.; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, former wife, Virgena Berner, brothers, Robert and Rodney Berner, grandson, Quenton White.

Bornemeier, Gary Allen

Gary A. Bornemeier, 66, of Lincoln, passed away on June 7, 2011. Gary was born on December 22, 1944 in Nebraska City to Carl and Iva (Bird) Bornemeier. He graduated from Lincoln High in 1963. On September 4, 1964 he married the love of his life Pamela Downs. He worked for Gooch Mills (ADM) for 36 years. Gary loved to fish and be in the outdoors. You could always catch him out at brother Dicks house talking about life or out at the lake catching the next big one. He loved to spend time with family on Husker Saturdays watching the game. His smile and laugh will be greatly missed.

Gary is survived by his wife of 46 years, Pamela ; daughter and son-in-law, Shaun and Mark Kometscher; grand-daughters, Megan Kometscher, Nicki and Ricardo Noyola, Jessica and Ajay Watkins; grandson, Mark Kometscher Jr.; eight great grandchildren; brother, Pete Bornemeier; brother-in-law, Gary Miller; sister-in-law, Trudy Monson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, BeeJay and Clair Munyon; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Pat and Kathy Notter; sister-in-law, Rose Rotherham, all of Lincoln; brother-in-law, Jack Downs of Oklahoma City; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends. Bornemeier, Richard L. "Dick"

Richard L. "Dick" Bornemeier, 69, of Lincoln, died June 7th, 2011 as a result of a motor vehicle accident. He was born September 7, 1941 to Carl and Iva (Bird) Bornemeier in Murdock. He spent his early years in the Murdock
area, moving to Lincoln as a teenager. Dick was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved camping and the outdoors. He worked most of his years in construction and was a talented carpenter and cement finisher. He truly enjoyed spending time with his brothers, and had many family and friends who will miss his witty and fun-loving character.

He is survived by two sons and their wives, Tim (Lynn) Bornemeier of Lincoln, and Ryon (Bree) Bornemeier of Denver; three grandsons, Easton and Logan of Lincoln, and Dawes of Denver; brother, Carl L. Bornemeier of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Pam Bornemeier of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Rose Rotherham of Lincoln; brother-in-law, Gary Miller of Lincoln; cousins, nieces and nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by one sister, Donna Miller; and two brothers, Henry and Gary Bornemeier of Lincoln.

Bower, Gerald II (Jerry)

Gerald (Jerry) Bower II, 50, of Lincoln, died Monday, December 19, 2011. He was born in Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio on November 12, 1961 to Gerald and Joan (Cloud) Bower. Gerald was a Lincoln High graduate in 1980 and alumni. He worked as a letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office.

Survived by his brother, Brian Bower of Lincoln and many aunts and uncles, cousins and friends. Gerald was preceded by his parents; and sister, Christine Elaine Bower.

Brannigan, Sean P.

Sean P. Brannigan, 35, of Lincoln, died Tuesday, December 27, 2011.

He was born in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 24, 1976 to Edward and Mary (Brouillette) Cassel. Sean was raised in Hastings, Nebraska. He was always passionate about art and was able to pursue his passion and life-long dream through his work as a tattoo artist. He made a mark on all the people that he met both in hearts and on their skin. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. He was a loving husband and father.

Sean is survived by his loving wife, Amber, of Lincoln; daughter, Naomi, of Lincoln; mother Mary Cassel and father Edward Cassel; brothers and sister-in-law, Aaron Brannigan, of Santa Fe, NM; Ryan and Dawn Brannigan, of Glennville, GA; sisters and brother-in-law, Kayla Brannigan, of Santa Fe, NM; Maggie Brannigan, of Santa Fe, NM; Krystle and Richard Smith, of New Orleans, LA; Kaela Spears, of Baton Rouge, LA; Shannon Spears, of Omaha, NE; grandparents, Mary Lou Brouillette, of Hastings, NE; Leahdele and Emerson Cassel, of Hastings, NE; and numerous other family members.

James W. Buchanan, 64, of Lincoln, died Friday, November 18, 2011.

Gary A. Bucher, 47, of Lincoln, died Saturday, October 1, 2011. He was born in Lincoln on August 4, 1964 to Roger and Donna (Ray) Bucher. Gary was raised in Eagle. He worked as a painter, welder and asbestosis removal.

He is survived by his father, mother, Donna LaPage of Eagle; sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Kris Myers of Lincoln; fiance, Terry Schulz; nieces, Kelsey Minchow and Jamie Minchow; great nephews, Logan and Liam; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Busboom, Karen Kay (Knobel)

Karen Kay (Knobel) Busboom, 73, of Lincoln, died Tuesday, September 27, 2011. Born March 17, 1938 near Powell Jefferson County, Nebraska Arthurand Esther (Johnson) Knobel. She was a 1955 graduate of Western High School Western, Neb. She taught in several elementary schools in Saline County and Jefferson County. On December 20, 1959 she married Gene W. Busboom at the Daykin Lutheran Church. They have two sons, Scott and Kurt. Karen worked for 28 years for McDonalds fast foods before retiring in June of 2000.

Karen is survived by her husband, Gene Busboom of Lincoln; children and spouses, Scott and Julie Busboom of Tecumseh, Kurt and Karri Busboom of Lincoln; granddaughters, Kelsi and Kassi; brother and spouse, Harold and Nancy Knobel of Valdosta, Ga.; brother-in-law, Rolland Roesler of Lincoln; sisters-in-law and spouse, Sharol Knobel of Fairbury; Barbara and Bob Kinney of Blue Eye, Mo.; and many cousins, nephews, and nieces. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Valjean Knobel; sister, Marlene Roesler and brother-in-law, Harvey Busboom.

Memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, September 30, 2011 at Wadlow Rozanek Funeral Home, 5200 'R' Street, Lincoln. Cremation has taken place, no viewing or visitation. Bustamante, Normando

Normando Bustamante, 50, Lincoln, died Sunday January 23, 2011. He was born August 11, 1960 in Chihuahua, Mexico to Florentino and Elfida (Corral) Bustamante. Normando was a loving husband, father, and brother.

Gary A. Bucher, 47, of Lincoln, died Saturday, October 1, 2011. He was born in Lincoln on August 4, 1964 to Roger and Donna (Ray) Bucher. Gary was raised in Eagle. He worked as a painter, welder and asbestosis removal.

He is survived by his father, mother, Donna LaPage of Eagle; sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Kris Myers of Lincoln; fiance, Terry Schulz; nieces, Kelsey Minchow and Jamie Minchow; great nephews, Logan and Liam; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Butcher, Irene Estelle

Irene Estelle Butcher, 90, of Grinnell, Iowa, passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines on Friday, June 3, 2011. Irene was born August 8, 1920 in Milligan, Neb. to Fred and Stella Hospodsky. She graduated from Milligan High School in 1938 and attended the University of Nebraska. She moved to Berwyn, Ill. to manage her uncle, Adolph Rozanek's movie theatre. In 1947 she was united in marriage to Dee E. Butcher. Dee and Irene lived in Berwyn, Ill., David City, Neb. where they owned the Butcher Furniture store. They moved to Lincoln, Neb. in 1959 and Grinnell, Iowa in 1962. Irene, Dee and their son Jay resided with her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Paul Johnson, since 2007. Irene was a homemaker who enjoyed traveling, reading, crafts, cooking and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathryn King, of Lincoln; Deborah (Paul) Johnson and Jan (David) Pope of Grinnell; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dee in 2009, her son Jay in 2009 and siblings Robert Hospodsky and Norma Kohler.

Visitation will be held at noon, Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at the Wadlow Rozanek Funeral Home 5200 'R' Street in Lincoln, Neb. Graveside services will follow at 1 p.m. at the Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the family to be donated to charities of their choice.









Cahoon, Christy Lynn

Christy Lynn Cahoon, 52, Lincoln, passed away May 19, 2011. Born in Lincoln on September 30, 1958 to Allen and Mary Ann (Schwabauer) Cahoon. She was one of the kindest, giving, loving, and, uncomplaining person in our lives.

Survivors, those of us who loved her so much: parents, Allen and Mary Ann Cahoon of Lincoln; brothers, Ben and Tom Cahoon of Lincoln; Scott Cahoon of Albuquerque, N.M.; nephew, Shane Cahoon of Lincoln; great niece, Abry Cahoon; great nephew, Hunter Cahoon; aunt and uncle, Pat and Richard Olson of Lomita, Calif.; many cousins. Preceded in death by all grandparents.

There will be cremation and a private family memorial service for our beloved Chris at a later date. Memorials may be given to C.M.T. or The Muscular Dystrophy Associations.









Carney, Vincent L.

Vincent L. Carney, 79, Lincoln, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2011. He was born February 28, 1932 in Detroit, Mich. to Vincent and Emma (Pasquintonio) Cognigni. He graduated in 1958 with a BSEE from Wayne State University, Detroit, then earned an LLB from Washington College of Law, Washington D.C. in 1962. He became a registered patent attorney in 1962. He was a member of the D.C. Bar, the Michigan Bar, the Illinois Bar and the Nebraska Bar.

Mr. Carney served on the front lines of the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 for which he was awarded the Korean Service Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, the United Nations Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.

His career included Chrysler Corporation, Chrysler Missile Division, Warren, Mich.; RCA Service Company, Government Service Department, Alexandria, Va.; U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Examining Division, Arlington, Va.; the patent law firm of David Taylor Model Basin, Carderock, Md.; Burroughs Corporation, Research Laboratories, Paoli, Penn. and Detroit; and the patent law firm of Fidler and Bradley, Chicago. In 1970, he became a self-employed patent attorney. He had offices in both Chicago and Lincoln until 1972 when he moved permanently to Lincoln where he maintained his law practice until the time of his death. He was a dedicated and brilliant patent attorney obtaining over a thousand patents in the United States and in foreign countries.

Mr. Carney's other achievements include giving a presentation in 1959 entitled "A Theoretical Consideration of Stiffness In An Electrical Cable" to the 8th Annual Wire and Cable Symposium in Asbury Park, N.J. and then in 1970, he authored a book entitled "The Great Cottage Industry".

He was preceded in death by his mother and father and two brothers, Gerald and William. Mr. Carney is survived by his dedicated and loyal staff whom he considered to be his family: Jolene Ryan, Kathy Dowding, Carol Claus, Connie Nissen, Brenda Boden, Sam O'Neill and Jodie Rowe; and his godson, Christopher Coupe (Kathryn Kennedy). He will be greatly missed by his staff, friends, colleagues and clients.

Dean Alvin Case, 86, of Lincoln, passed away June 4, 2011. Born
in Ravenna, Neb. on December 22, 1924 to Lewis E. and Bertha M. (Miner) Case. Dean worked for Lincoln Journal Star before retiring. He was in the U.S. Navy Seabees and served in WWII. He was a member of the American Legion.

Dean is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, JoAnn of Lincoln; daughter, Janet L. Daniel, of Manhattan, Kan.; sons and daughter-in-law, Russell and Betty Case of Douglas, Neb.; Richard Bloom of Lincoln; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; nephew, Robert Case. Lyle Eugene Cassell, 72, of Lincoln, died Tuesday February 15, 2011. Born in Fremont on May 6, 1938 to James and Velma (Coon) Edward. Lyle was a very loving husband, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, and he will be missed by many.

Chism, Joan Johnson

Joan Johnson Chism, 79, of Lincoln passed away Saturday April 23, 2011. Born January 11, 1932 in Lincoln to John William and Helen Angeline (Rienhard) Johnson. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Delta Zeta Sorority and Eastern Star Starcraft Chapter #307. Joan graduated in 1955 from Nebraska Wesleyan University and gave 40 years of her life to the teaching profession in Lincoln retiring in 1995 from the Lincoln Public Schools.

Survived by son and daughter-in-law, John Neal Asa and Rhonda Chism of Lincoln; grandson, Dillon Asa Chism of Lincoln. Preceded in death by her husband, Neal Chism; sister, Patricia Dell.

Churray, James Jerome

James Jerome Churray Sr., 69, of Lincoln, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2011.  Jim was born in Canonsburg, PA on June 15, 1941, to Joseph Paul and Margaret Marie (Stolar) Churray, He attended Ripley, NY public schools. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the 551st Missile Squadron stationed here in Lincoln, NE as an Electrical Power Production Specialist. While stationed here he met his future wife, Patricia Marie Sintek. They were married in Ripley, NY after his discharge on August 21, 1965. They had four children: Mary Ann, Barbara Sue, James Jerome Jr., and Anthony Churray. Jim worked in Boiler Start up and Repair for Welch Grape Juice in Westfield, NY; Zurn Industries of Erie, PA; and in security for Nebraska Boiler. Jim enjoyed fishing and camping, especially in SD. He loved wood working and made many beautiful gift for his children.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert Churray, an infant brother, and brother in law Robert Mucha. He is survived by his children Mary Ann Churray of Custer, SD; Barbara Sue Echtenkamp of Omaha, NE; James Jerome Churray Jr. of Omaha, NE; and Anthony Churray of Lincoln, NE; by brother Joseph Churray and wife Marica of VA; by brother David Churray and family of SC; by sister Margaret Mucha and family of Jamaica, VA; five grandchildren: Megan and William Echtenkamp; Kelby and Keegan Hicks; and Joseph Churray; former wife Patricia; and his faithful friend Dusty. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Wadlow Rozanek Funeral Home at 5200 R Street, Lincoln at 11:00 am. Burial will be at Quincey Cemetery in Ripley, NY.

Kyle Loren Clark, 43, Lincoln, found peace on May 12, 2011. He was born September 28, 1967 in Lincoln to Robert and Carolyn (Voyles) Clark. Kyle graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School and attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Kyle proudly served our country as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1997-2004. He served in Hawaii, Korea and Iraq. He was a talented actor, musician and writer.

Clayton, Robert Jack

Robert Jack Clayton, 79, of Valparaiso, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2011.Born on August 4, 1931 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Leon and Irene (Handy) Clayton. He lived in Valparaiso for 38 years with his wife M. Jean Clayton. He had worked for the State Capital, Brandies, and Nebraska Boiler as an electrician. Robert served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Mason.

Robert is survived by his wife, M. Jean; daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela (Gary) Warford of Koshkonong Missouri; Lea (Tim) Davis of Midwest City, Oklahoma; six granddaughters, one grandson and two great grandsons. Preceded in death by brother, Max; parents; sister and grandson, Bobby.

Copple-Johnson, Molly Nell

Molly Nell Copple-Johnson, 83, Lincoln, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011. Nell was born June, 6, 1927 in Florala, Ala. to Milton Philmore and Dorothy Nizine (Johnston) Carter. She attended elementary and high school in Florala, and received her Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Montevallo, Ala. After graduation, Nell taught school in Mobile, Ala. and at Elgin Air Force Base, Florida. Nell moved to Lincoln in 1957, and in 1960, began teaching at Dawes Elementary. She continued there until her retirement in 1988. In addition to her teaching career, Nell was an active member of the community. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and the Deborah Circle of UMC. She was also a member of Kappa Kappa Iota, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Lincoln Community Playhouse Guild, LARTA, LEAR, Pot Pourri, Parents Without Partners, the Birthday Club, and the Star City Doll Club. Known always for her enduring Southern drawl, Nell loved shopping for clothes and shoes and traveling with her dear husband, Mo. Nell shared her many talents with others through her acting at the Lincoln Community Playhouse (favorite roles in "The Wizard of Oz" and "Our Town"), giving talks about her Santa Claus collection, making cookies and wreaths for the Christmas Bazaar at UMC, and celebrating the 4th of July with over the top decorations.

Nell was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Morris (Mo) Winslow Johnson. She is survived by her two sons, David Copple of Crete, and Phil Copple of Lincoln, her brother and sister-in-law James and Althia Merle Carter, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., nieces, a nephew and numerous dear friends.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, January 8, at the First United Methodist Church, 2723 North 50th Street, Lincoln, with Pastor Jamie Norwich McLennan officiating. No visitation. William "Bill" E. Deats, 86, Lincoln, passed away Monday May 2, 2011. Born (03-01-1925) in Bennet to Oliver K. and Myrtle (Jones) Deats. He was a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Air Force; also serving in World War II, Korean conflict; and Vietnam War. William was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church; and he held the Bronze Jordan Metal for Oakland Masonic Lodge #94; and American Legion Post #280 of Bennet.

Survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William Daniel Deats and Sandra Bobb Deats of McDonough, Ga.; daughter, Alicia Deats of Lincoln; grandson, Patrick James Deats; sister, Ruth Williams of Joplin, Mo.; brother-in-law and spouse, Robert and Theresa Ragsdale of Jennison, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.

Densberger, Jack A.

Jack A. Densberger, 47, of Lincoln, passed away Sunday April 3, 2011. Jack worked as a machinist at Burlington Northern Santa Fe. He served in the United States Army and was a beloved father. One of Jack's greatest accomplishments was earning State Championship in gymnastics high bar at Lincoln High. Jack will be missed and loved by all.

Survived by daughters, Natasha (Densberger) Batt of Little Rock, Arkansas, MaKayla Densberger and Alexia Mae Densberger of Lincoln; father, Richard A. Dunn, Kathleen Ruth

Kathleen Ruth Dunn, 69, of Waverly, Neb. went home to be with her Lord on September 4, 2011 at the Waverly Care Center.  She was born in Tecumseh, Neb on December 23, 1941 to Frederick and Marie (Olendorf) Kopplin.  Kathleen was a devoted wife and mother.  She enjoyed home schooling children and had a very strong religious faith.

Virginia D. Eller, 78, of Lincoln, died Monday, November 28, 2011. She was born in Hindricks County, IN, on March 17, 1933 to Virgil and Irene (Taylor) Snyder. Virginia was a member of the First Baptist Church and Eastern Star #122 in Bellevue, FL. She worked hard to raise her family. She was employed as a cook for many years and later earned an associates degree in accounting. Virginia loved to play keno, bingo and was an avid reader.


She is survived by her daughter, Paula Serougham of Lubbick, TX, son and daughter in-law, Allen and Kay Laughlin of Arizona, son, Cleveland Mead of Lincoln, daughter, Camala Maikraz of Lincoln, eight grand children, eight great grand children, and one great, great grand child.

Erickson, Peggy Lee 

Peggy Lee (Greenfield) Erickson, 68, of Lincoln, passed away with her family by her side, Friday, August 26, 2011.

She was born to Alonzo “Lonnie” and Katherine (Kirlin) Greenfield on August 17, 1943 in Lincoln, NE.  Peggy was united in marriage to James Anderson Erickson on June 5, 1960 and to this union they had four children.

Her passions were reading books, music, and traveling, camping and spending time with family.  Peggy was a devoted wife, mother, and an extremely proud grandmother and great grandmother.  She will be missed dearly.
Peggy is survived by her spouse of 51 years James Anderson Erickson, of Lincoln;  son and daughters- in- law, James Anderson and Sonya Erickson Jr.  and Daniel and Carrie Erickson, both of Lincoln; brother and sisters- in- law, Jerry and Velma Greenfield, of Lincoln; and Patricia Nelson, Northglenn, Colorado; 4 grandsons, 6 granddaughters and 2 great grandsons, numerous nieces and nephews.

Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Shelley Strudl and son, Randall Erickson.

Frances Marie Evernham, 78, Lawton, Iowa, passed away Tuesday March 15, 2011 at  Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln.  She was born in Sioux City, Iowa on February 21, 1933 to Orlin Ray and Marjorie Pearl (Nisbet) Rumelhart. Frances married her husband, Maurice Oran Evernham in Sioux City, Iowa on August 31, 1950, and they had 6 children.

Survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Alvin(Al) Maurice and Debbie Evernham of  Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; Vernon George and Robin Evernham of Lawton, Iowa; Danny Lee and Bonnie Evernham of Bronson, Iowa; daughters and sons-in law, Sharon Kay and William Pike of Oak Grove, Minnesota; Kathern (Kathy) Frances and Darren Theesen of Lincoln, Nebraska; Sandra Pearl Evernham of East Bethel, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great
grandchildren; brother, Delbert Rumelhart of Fort Worth, Texas; sisters-in-law,  Marie Rumelhart of Wes
t Point, Iowa; Eulalia Gruing of Windom, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews and friends.  She was preceded in death by her husband Maurice, an infant sister, and brother Dareld Rumelhart.

Ferega, Shirley Joan

Shirley Joan Ferega, 75, of Lincoln, died Monday July 25, 2011. Born in Lincoln on February 4, 1936 to Jesse and Ethel (Stopher) Brewer. She began her career as an employee of Lancaster County Department of Public Welfare, which later merged with Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services from where she retired in 2001. She was a longtime member of Women of the Moose. She raised two sons, Paul and Patrick in and around Ceresco and Raymond. She was a loving daughter to her mother, Ethel and step-dad Ward VanArsdall. Shirley married Thomas Ferega in 1976 and lived together happily until he passed in 2001. She was an extraordinary, unique, and independent woman that will be greatly missed.

Survivors: sons, Paul and Vicky VanArsdall, Eagle, Patrick and Sheryl Crumb, Lincoln; step-daughters and sons-in-law: Linda and Sam Perrone, Garland, Texas, Judith and Mario Velasco, Idaho Falls, Ida.; grandchildren: Michael VanArsdall, James Crumb, Jason Crumb, Jared Crumb, Brandon Crumb, Cory Velasco, Tricia Shaffer, Daniel Shaffer; great granddaughters: Zoe Crumb, Lucy Crumb. Kenneth Eugene Folsom, 79, of Lincoln, died Saturday, November 26, 2011. He was born in Ashland, NE, on July 24, 1932 to Clarence and Myrtle (Scheel) Folsom. Kenneth retired from Goodyear in 1995, as a Production Scheduler, with forty years of service.


Kenneth is survived by his wife Shirley (Drewel) Folsom of Lincoln, son and daughter in-law Steven and Pam Folsom of Bradenton, FL, son and daughter in law, Rick and Barb Folsom of Lincoln, sister and brother in-law Sandra and Duane Jacobs of Ashland, NE, nine grand children, six great grand children, many niece's, nephew's, aunt's, uncle's, and cousin's.

Fortney, Anthony C.

Anthony C. Fortney, 46, of Lincoln, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 19, 2011. He was born on May 24, 1965 in Kalamazoo, Mich. to Charlie and Linda (Schilling) Fortney. He enlisted in the United States Army, serving in the 3rd Infantry and the Old Guard detail for Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. from 1985-1989. These were some of his happiest memories and where he found life-long friends.

He is survived by his father, Charles M. Fortney, Lincoln; brother and sister-in-law, Marty (Michelle) Fortney of Lincoln; uncle and aunt, Kendall and Marylin Hill of Berrien Springs, Mich.; nieces and nephews, Josef and Seth Kissinger, Savannah and Garrett Fortney; loved by extended family, many friends and missed greatly by his best friend and companion, Dozer, his Rottweiler. Preceded in death by his mother, Linda Lee Fortney and sister, Cynthia Lee Fortney Parker.

Lois K. Fox, 96, of North Bend (formerly of Lincoln & Litchfield), died
April 7, 2011 at Birchwood Manner in North Bend.
She was born July 12, 1914 in Loup City to Elizabeth & Adolph Newhouser.
Lois was the 6th of 11 children. She attended high school & business school
in Chicago. After graduation she returned to NE and worked at the courthouse
in Loup City.

She married Carl Fox in 1935. They lived in Litchfield where they owned &
operated a Phillips 66 service station until 1964, when they moved to
Lincoln.  Lois was involved in the Methodist Church, Rebecca Lodge, Eastern
Star, and the Litchfield Lads and Lassies 4-H club. After moving to Lincoln,
she kept busy caring for young children in her home. She enjoyed tending her
vegetable gardens & countless varieties of flowers. Lois also found pleasure
in cooking, canning, crafts and collecting angels and dolls. Lois was a
member of the Havelock United Methodist Church and Columbia Chapter 275
Eastern Star.

Lois moved to Birchwood Manor in North Bend in May 2008. She was proceeded in
death by her parents; husband; son, Deane; 1 sister and 8 brothers.
Survivors include: daughter-in-law, Carolyn Fox of Lincoln; daughters and
son-in-laws, Jeanne & Gary McCord of Boyertown, PA and Carlene &

William Lee Goodyear, 73, of Lincoln, died Tuesday June 14, 2011. Born in Topeka, Kansas on October 30, 1937 to Russel and Ester I. (Gaye) Goodyear. William was a veteran in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War.

Dwayne Allen Greer Jr., 19, Lincoln, died Sunday, July 31, 2011. He was better known as Baby-D, Skinny-D or D-Weezy. He was born on February 22, 1992 in Omaha to Dwayne Greer and Brenda (Campbell) Johnson. Dwayne attended Lincoln High School and was associated with Campus Life. He enjoyed basketball, video games and hanging out with his friends.

Gusler, Harold Warren (Gus)

Harold (Gus) Warren Gusler Jr., 61, of Lincoln, died Monday, November 21, 2011.

He was born in Holdrege, Nebraska on January 11, 1950 to Harold and Lily (Toole) Gusler.  Harold worked at National Crane as a welder for many years and served in the United States Army.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.  He will be greatly missed.


Harold is survived  by his wife Nancy, son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Tammi Gusler; daughter and son- in- law, Melisa and Shawn Brownson, of Lincoln;  grandchildren, Hayden and Hunter Gusler; brothers, Jerry (Shirley) Skaggs, of Missouri; Ed (Shirley) Skaggs,

Anthony (PaPa) Carl Haggan , 50, of Lincoln, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2011.  He was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi on April 20, 1961 to Fred McGee and Diane Haggan.  He was loved by many and will be missed dearly.

Anthony loved the Lord and gave his life to Christ.

Harper, R. Neil Jr.

R. Neil Harper Jr., 57, of Lincoln, died Saturday, September 3, 2011. Neil, the son of Royce N. and Charlotte Jean Harper was born on November 13, 1953 in Grand Island, Neb. Neil graduated from Pius X High School and attended the University of Nebraska. He was a lifelong entertainer. He loved playing guitar, piano and singing.

Irene May Hermann, 87, of Lincoln, passed away Saturday, July 23, 2011. She was born in Bennet on June 15, 1924 to William and Rosa (May) Siefert. Irene married Vernon Hermann on January 25, 1948 in Lincoln. Irene worked as a secretary for Farm Service Administrator for over 29 years. She also worked for Roberts Dairy and LTT Company doing accounting. She was a member of Omaha German-American Society. Irene was a lifetime member of St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church and choir.

She is survived by her husband, Vernon; sister-in-law, Elaine Siefert of Lincoln; nieces, Sandra Siefert of Bennet, Nancy (Tim) Malone of Lincoln; nephews, Marvin (Diane) Siefert of Seward, Carl Siefert of Bennet, Bill (Pam) Siefert of Hickman; special friends, Elfi (Noel) Lee of Lincoln, Amy (Rainer) Gartzke of Lincoln, Marcia (Detlef) Gartzke of Lincoln; and many more special friends. Alysha Ann Holt, 38, of Lincoln, died Sunday, November 20, 2011. Alysha was born in Spokane, WA, on March 7, 1973 to James and Merry (Ludberg) Holt.  She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed.

John McDaniel Hooten, 52, of Lincoln, died unexpectedly Friday, June 24, 2011. Born in Birmingham, Ala. on October 16, 1958. John attended Herscher High School and then graduated from Norfolk High School in the top 10 in the class of 1976. He earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering at U.N.L. in 1981. John helped in raising Zacharia, Joshua and Jeremiah Gillander.

Larry James Houser, 71, of David City, Nebraska passed away Thursday, September 22, 2011.  He was born in McIntosh, South Dakota on October 14, 1939 to Cliff and Georgia (Weeden) Houser.  He worked as a machinist and his favorite hobby was racing cars at Eagle Raceway.

Larry is survived by his wife, Kelli Houser, of David City; son, Eric Houser, of Post Falls, Idaho; daughters, Mariah Houser, of David City; Jamie Lancaster, of Post Falls, Idaho; brothers and sister-in-law, Terril LuLow, of David City; William  and Joy Emerson, of Washington; and eight grandchildren.

Angelo Dominique "Nick" Hughes, 37, of Lincoln, passed away unexpectedly Friday, September 30, 2011. Nick was a musician who enjoyed writing songs, playing the guitar, and singing.

Angelo is survived by his wife, Dee Ann (Bates) Hughes of Lincoln; mother, Shirlene Hughes; sister, Julia Kriz, all of Cookeville, Tenn.; step-father, Kenneth Kriz of Puerto Rico; his in-laws, Dave and Barb Beall; sister-in-law, Jennifer Beall, all of Lincoln.

Savanna Eva Hydo, 7 months, of Lincoln, died Monday July 18, 2011. 
Savanna was born in Lincoln on December 9, 2010 to Jonathan Santos and Jamie Hydo.

Irons, Jimmie M.

Jimmie M. Irons, 73, of Lincoln, died Sunday April 24, 2011. Born March 1, 1938 in Lincoln to Clyde Sr. and Louise (Sachse) Irons.

He graduated first class of Lincoln Southeast High School in 1956. Jimmie was a member of Grace United
Methodist Church; Moose Lodge; Pioneer Telephone. Jimmie retired after 30 years at Lincoln Telephone Company and many years at LeRoy Irons Trucking.

Jimmie was involved for many years in Boy Scouting including Scout Master. He served in
the United States Army with a year in Korea. Married Lois J. Baker on September 19, 1959 and had five children and 13 grandchildren and he enjoyed going to NASCAR races and grandchildren's sporting events. 

Survivors include his wife Lois; daughters and sons in-law, Jodi M. Rice of Lincoln, Lori M. and James Wood of Las Vegas, Jaclyn M. and Dennis Reel of Lincoln; sons, Jeffrey Irons of Lincoln, Duane Irons of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Jennica, Jordin, and Jaymee Rice, Michael and Nicholas Irons of Lincoln, Damian Sutton, all of Lincoln, Jonathan Rhodes of York, Erica Annet of California, Amberlyn Irons, Robert Brown III, Brittany, Noelle, and Natalie Wood, all of Las Vegas; sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Mike Hansen of Lincoln; brothers and sister-in-law, Raymond Irons, Alabama, Orville (Pete) and Mary Irons of Lincoln; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Gloria Jansto of California, Jim Baker of Florida, Violet and Paul Lostroh, Arkansas, Doris and Wally Niederhaus of Colorado, Rita Baker of Lincoln, Judy Irons of Lincoln, Beverly Irons of Lincoln; and many nieces and nephews.

Jacobs, Wayne Lee

Wayne Lee Jacobs, 61, of Lincoln, Nebraska, went to his heavenly home on Thursday, June 9, 2011.

Wayne was born in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin on September 23, 1949, the son of John and Ethel (Schrader) Jacobs. Wayne was baptized and confirmed at First English Lutheran Church in Whitewater. He graduated from Whitewater High School. Wayne’s final journey took him to the People’s City Mission in Lincoln, NE, where he worked.

Surviving are his sister, Donna (Dennis) Scherer, Fort Atkinson, WI, brothers Glenn Jacobs, East Troy, WI, John Jacobs, Janesville, WI, and Steve Jacobs, Whitewater, WI. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.   
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation will be held Saturday, June 25, 2011 from 1 – 3 pm at Nitardy Funeral Home in Whitewater, WI. No formal services will be held.

James Arthur Johnston, 76, of Lincoln, died Monday, March 14, 2011. He was born September 12, 1934 in Lincoln to Dr. Glenn R. and Anna (Ford) Johnston. James was married in Lexington, on August 17, 1963 to Sarah (Johnson) Johnston. He was a past member of Westminster Presbyterian Church; Sesostris Shrine, associated with Harley Davidson Motor Corp. and a 32 Degree Mason.

Herman John Jones, 46, of Lincoln, died Thursday, October 20, 2011. He was born in Fallon, Nev. on August 13, 1965 to Leland and Ruth (Grabouski) Jones. Herman was a member of the National Rifle Association (N.R.A.) and Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.). He worked for Kawasaki as a welder.

Richard "Rick" Lafrenz, 49, of Lincoln, passed away Monday April 4, 2011. He was born May 5, 1961 in Lincoln to Richard and Donna (Pratt) Lafrenz. He worked in the shipping and receiving department of a manufacturing company and was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.

He is survived by his sisters, Connie Kage, and DeAnna Smith of Lincoln; brother, Randall Lafrenz of Lincoln; along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents.

Eilene Fay Langley, 74, of Lincoln, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2011. She was born on January 30, 1936 in Paonia, Colo. to Murray and Vera (Zongker) Kearns. Eilene was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and favorite aunt. She enjoyed working at the horse races, particularly the many years at Ak-Sar-Ben and the Kentucky Derby.

Randall D. Larson was called to be with his Lord on Tuesday, July 5, 2011.
Randy was born January 21, 1953 in Oakland, Nebraska to Donald E. and Betty (Helzer) Larson.

He was the owner of R.D. Larson, Inc.   Over the years he enjoyed hunting and fishing especially as an archer.  He along with his wife, Susan, and their dog, Danu, enjoyed God’s marvelous nature, spending their time in the woods and at ponds and lakes.  Traveling together was a joy to him.

Maatsch, Della Louise

Della Louise Maatsch, 73, of Lincoln, passed away April 12, 2011. She was born on July 23, 1937 in Wymore. Della grew up in the Blue Springs, Wymore area. She was the daughter of the late Earl and Gladys Pyle. Della graduated from Blue Springs High School in 1955. She then worked for the Beatrice Daily Sun and Dempster Mill where she met her future husband. She married Walter (Jr.) Maatsch on June 15, 1958, to this union two daughters were born, Cappy and Earlene. Della and her family lived in Rensslaer, Ind., Sheffield, Iowa, Des Moines, Iowa, Grand Island, and retired in Lincoln. Della's pride was her grandchildren.

Survivors: husband, Walter Maatsch, Lincoln; daughter, Cappy Maatsch, Lincoln; son-in-law, Randy Smith, Iowa; Nancy and Kenneth Royal, Bennett; sister-in-law, Joyce Maatsch, Beatrice; grandchildren, Taylor Smith, Nathan Smith, Ben Smith, Steven Maatsch, Jon Maatsch, and Megan Royal. She is proceeded in death by daughter, Earlene Smith; parents, Earl and Gladys Pyle; sister, Bernadine Campbell.

Majdic, Richard Gene

Richard Gene Majdic, 53, of Lincoln, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011.
He was born on September 19, 1957 in the small town of Cordova in the
Territory of Alaska to Julius and Barbara (Romjue) Majdic.
Richards's life was short but full of adventures. 

He started fishing with  his father and two brothers in Bristol Bay, Alaska.  Then moving on to shrimping, halibut long lining and finally crab fishing in The Bering Sea
and Gulf of Alaska.  Richards's love of fishing took him to Australia, New
Zealand, South America and places in between.  After 25 years his body worn
out he moved to Nebraska and took up long haul truck driving around the
United States. 

He lived in Nebraska with his partner and special friend of 20 years.  Richard fought a long battle with heart disease and finally lost the battle August 23, 2011.  He will be missed by all.

Richard is survived by his mother, Barbara;  brothers, Brad and Mark Majdic,
of Kodiak, Alaska;  special friend of 20 years.  Preceded in death by his
father.  Richards's remains will be brought back to Alaska for a private
family service.

Marshall, Laverne

Laverne Marshall, 92, of Lincoln, passed away Saturday March 5, 2011.

She was born October 18, 1918 in Defiance, Iowa to Pete and Floy (Maxwell) Hulsebus.  Laverne married Otis Marshall on December 25, 1939 in Lewis, Iowa and the couple had six children. She was a member of Indian Hills Community Church.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Roy and Claudia Marshall of Stanton, Iowa; Ray and Jackie Marshall of Stillwater, Minnesota;  daughters and sons-in-law,  Ruth and Larry Porter of Lincoln; Rita and Joel Stapf of Spokane, Washington; Roberta and Jim Hauck of Deep Haven, Minnesota; Renee Marshall of Memphis, Tennessee; 13 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Laverne was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Marshall.

Matthews, Clifford Alpheus

Clifford Alpheus Matthews, 97, of Lincoln, died May 15, 2011, after a short illness. He was born October 6, 1913 on the beautiful island of Trinidad and Tobago, the son of the late Emanuel and Ida Matthews. He worked at Texaco Oil Company in the media relations department as a journalist. He received his formal education from Cipriani Labor College in Trinidad. He was an active member of Indian Hills Community Church and volunteered at local elementary schools. He was an avid reader and had a vast collection of books.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Euphemia Phoebe Forde-Matthews; brothers, Albert, Jimmy, and sister, Tiny. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Edmund and Claudette Gonzales Matthews of Lithonia, Ga.; son Clifton Gonzales Matthews of Lincoln; son and daughter-in-law, Sibert and Monica Gonzales Matthews of Trinidad; daughter and son-in-law, Ima and Michael Wilson of Canada; and daughter and son-in-law, Welete and Barnell Caldwell of Clovis, Calif. Nine grandchildren, Anthony Matthews, Sparkle Matthews, Crystal Matthews, Keysha David, Janelle Brice, Justin Brice, Jeannine Brice, Dion Gonzales Matthews, Shane Gonzales Matthews, and one great-granddaughter Ayeona Hopkins Matthews.

D'Are "Doc" R. Mullet, a.k.a. Dr. Blues, died in his home on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 in Lincoln. Born April 25, 1950, the adopted son of Albert and Adeline Mullet, Doc grew up in Superior, and graduated from Doane College. Doc loved Lincoln, and spent his life cheering for the Husker football and women's volleyball teams. Doc loved hot sauce and Heineken, football, and cats. He was an advocate for mental health and addiction causes, as well as the environment and the humane treatment of animals. A Blues man, Doc's greatest accomplishments included playing and singing in Midwest Projection, The Blues Cruisers, Blues Party, and Bad Moon Rising, as well as drumming with Magic Slim, Charlie Musselwhite, Matt "Guitar" Murphy, Jimmy Thackery, Tommy Castro, Tad Benoit, Larry Garner, Chubby Carrier, The Dynatones, Luther Dickinson, The Beat Daddys, The Jerry Forney Band, The Buddy Holley Tribute Band, Baby Jason, "Honeyboy" Turner, Sean Benjamin, Todd Sharpeville, Kris Lager, Nick Holt, Albert Cummings, and Too Slim and the Tail Draggers.

Doc is survived by his daughter, Medea (Scott) Saunders and grand-daughter, Aenea; son, Jason Hermann; and son Bryce Mullet; his ex-wife and friend, Dee (Schmidt) Mullet; his aunt, Betty Mullet; cousin, Margaret Mullet, Dr. Wendall Bouman; and three kitties. Doc was preceded in death by his parents.

A party/wake will be held in Doc's honor at The Zoo Bar on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at 3 p.m. Inurnment services will be held at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery in Superior. Memorials should be sent to the Capital Humane Society in Lincoln. 

 

 

 

 

Munden, Nancy Elizabeth

Nancy Elizabeth Munden, 64, of Lincoln, came into the life on May 26, 1947. She left this life on November 3, 2011. Nancy was born in McCook to Fredrick and Jean (Paul) Munden. Nancy graduated from Lincoln High School and the University of Nebraska. She worked many years at the Barkley Center on East Campus at the University. Her special interests were Star Trek, science fiction and the medieval era arts, as well as life itself.

She is survived by her sister, Linda Munden, of Lincoln; and countless friends and people who she had met and made friends with. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents.

A special thank you to all the residents and staff at Mahoney Manor and Crete Manor for helping to make life a little richer.

Nichelson, Charlotte Rae

Charlotte Rae Nichelson, 71, of Lincoln, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2011. She was born in Des Moines, Iowa on May 29, 1940 to Evertt and Eva (Fitzgerald) Chism. Charlotte was a coach for South Lincoln Track Club. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Charlotte was a lover of all animals.

Charlotte is survived by her husband, Duayne; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Mary Gilliland of Lincoln; Larry Gilliland of Lincoln; Mark and Jaci Nichelson of Columbus; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Justin Henry of Lincoln; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and many friends. Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents.

JoAnn Nichelson, 78, Valparaiso passed away Thursday April 28, 2011. 
Born 10/03/1932 in Seward to Harry and Gladys (Carlson) Parker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Valparaiso and Eastern Star of Ceresco.

Survived son and daughter-in-law, Lyle and Susan, Fort Worth, Texas; daughters and son-law, Kathy and Steven Schwaninger, Rogers, Minn: Betty and Kelly Mischanko, Jacksonville, FL.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband, Cecil, and son, Paul Nichelson.

Memorial Service will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday May 3, 2011 at First United Methodist Church Valparaiso with Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating.  Burial will be at Valparaiso Cemetery.

James Lawrence Oldfield, 54, of Beatrice, died Saturday, September 3, 2011. He was born in Lincoln on February 17, 1957 to Jack and Wanda (Zinsmaster) Oldfield. He was the Vice President of Defiant Few (MC) Motorcycle Club from February of 2009 to present.

David L. Oliver, 54, of Lincoln, died Tuesday, October 11, 2011. He was born in Lincoln on July 28, 1957 to Glen and Karen (Withers) Oliver. David worked for State Farm Insurance for over 13 years as an electrician.

Osbon, Harold W. (Ozzie)

Harold "Ozzie" W. Osbon, 86, of Lincoln, passed away peacefully Friday, December 23, 2011. He was born on June 20, 1925, in Stanton, Neb. to William and Sylvia (Peltzer) Osbon. Harold married Winnie Barnhart December 21, 1947, in Stanton, and has been married for 64 years. Harold served in the U.S. Navy - The Seabees. Harold was a Music Teacher with the Lincoln Public Schools until retirement in 1989. He was a member of Nebraska Band Masters Association and the Lincoln VFW. Harold was a Tuba Player for over 50 years in the Tommy Bishop Dance Band.

Survived by his loving wife, Winnie, of Lincoln; sons, Mike Osbon, of Minneapolis, Minn.; Pat Osbon, of El Cerrito, Calif.; and many friends. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harvey.

Donna Marie Pillard, 56, of Lincoln, died Tuesday, June 7, 2011. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. Donna lived a very tough but memorable life.

Powell, Michael Everett

Michael Everett Powell, 55, of Lincoln, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2011. He was born on July 2, 1955 in Benkelman, Neb. to Everett and Leora (Folkerts) Powell. Michael and Sandra (Misner) Powell were united in marriage on June 19, 1982 in Lincoln. He worked for his brother, Dr. Richard Powell as an Optician at Malbar Vision Center in Lincoln for 30 years. Michael graduated from Grand Island High School and Omaha Optician College and attended Kearney State College. Michael had a great love for music, sports and fishing trips to Canada with his family. He was a gentle and loving son, husband; father, brother, uncle and great uncle. Mike will be greatly missed by his family and many-many friends.

Michael is survived by his mother, Leora of Lincoln; former wife, Sandra Powell of Lincoln; daughter, Sara M. Powell of Lincoln; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert Powell and spouse Patty of Bettendorf, Iowa; Dr. Richard L. Richstatter, James A.

James A. Richstatter, 62, of Lincoln died on Monday March 28, 2011. Jim worked for many years as a counselor in the drug and alcohol rehabilitation field and child protective services, as well as a volunteer for the drug crisis line. 

He had many hobbies and interests to include the Lincoln Cribbage League, wine trekking, crossword puzzels, playing pool and any water activity.  Jim loved to travel.  

Jim is survived by his son, Karl and wife Mariah Richstatter of Portland, Ore.; his daughter, Katje Richstatter; sister, Merillin Richstatter, both of San Francisco.; and his significant other Jean Heger of Lincoln, Nebraska.

A private ceremony was held on April 3rd 2011 for the much loved and missed parent, partner and friend.

Seymour, Richard R.

Richard R. Seymour, age 71,  passed away Sunday, June 5th, 2011, at his home in Lincoln. Dick was born on June 23, 1939 in Lincoln to Victor and Margaret Seymour.  He was active in the Lincoln Unitarian Church and graduated from Lincoln High and the University of Nebraska. He also received a B.A. in music from Western Washington University and a Masters in Music from Boston University. After living in Bellingham, Washington and Boston, Massachusetts for many years, he returned to Lincoln in 1999, where he worked in the music library at the University of Nebraska and accompanied the choir at the Unitarian Church.

He is survived by his brother William and his sister Victoria and her husband
Charles Bassani of Chicago, and his brother Thomas and his wife Sally
Seymour of Ann Arbor, Michigan. A memorial service will be held in the fall
at the Unitarian Church.









Shanks, Lela Nuna (Knox)

Lela Nuna (Knox) Shanks, 84, of Lincoln, peacefully passed away at home Monday, October 24, 2011. She was born in Oklahoma City September 16, 1927, the youngest child of William Medford and Lila (Griggs) Knox. Lela grew up in Green Pastures, a Black American community 15 miles from Oklahoma City. She graduated magna cum laude from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo. in 1949, with a degree in journalism. While in college, she fell in love with Hughes Hannibal Shanks and they were married on Thanksgiving Day, 1947. Lela worked at the St. Louis News, St. Louis Argus and Chicago Defender. She also worked for the U.S. Soil Conservation Service and the Nebraska Department of Labor. Lela believed that, "...the kingdom of God is within you." (Luke 17:21). She spent 50 years of her life in the practice of developing her inner life. As a pastime, Lela loved growing flowers, pressing and drying them, making cards and pictures for family and friends.

Lela is survived by her children; daughter and son-in-law, Nena and Mike Lewis; son and daughter-in-law, Cedric and Kathy Shanks; daughter, Shela Shanks; son and daughter-in-law, Eric Shanks and Sherry Waldman; grandchildren, Carrie, Orpheus, Danielle, Christopher, Zenith, Zoe, Orchid, Lela and Cedric; great grandchildren, Itheopia and Michael; and many beloved friends. Preceded in death by her husband, Hughes Shanks; parents, William and Lila Knox; sister, Claudine Smith; brother, Johnny Knox; niece, Claudette Smith.

Showalter, Duane W.
 
Duane W. Showalter, 89, of Lincoln, passed away Tuesday August 9, 2011. Duane was born in Fairbury, NE on July 20, 1922 to Henry Raymond and Ellen Clymena (Wright) Showalter. He was raised in Fairbury then served in the United States Navy in WWII and Korean War. He moved to Lincoln in 1946. Duane worked for Minnegasco Company for over 30 years before retiring. He was a Lifetime Member of the American Legion Post # 3 and a member of Bethany Christian Church.

Duane is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond Roe and Jeannie Showalter, of Lincoln; Con Douglas and Anita Showalter, of Schell, Wyoming; and many nieces, nephews and special friend, Connie Schwartz. Preceded in death by his parents, sister, Roma G. Regler.

Sohl, Norma Jean

Norma Jean (Fischer) Sohl, died July 2nd, 2011 at home in
Topeka, Kansas at the age of 81. She was born July 14th, 1929 in Lincoln,
Nebraska to Ben and Berneice Fischer.  Her father was a juvenile officer and
police detective and her mother a business woman, seamstress and active in
community service in Lincoln, NE.

Norma graduated from Lincoln High School in 1947 where she was valedictorian  for her graduating class, and attended the University of Nebraska.  Devoted  to God and family, Norma married Stanley D. Sohl of Lincoln, in 1948 and moved six years later to Topeka, Kansas. She earned her Bachelor's of Education from Washburn University in Topeka and her Master's of Science from Kansas State University specializing in Learning Disabilities. This she accomplished while teaching at Highland Park and McCarter Elementary Schools, and raising five children. Norma was a member of the Honors Society of Phi Kappa Phi and Tau Delta Pi.  She taught in the Topeka school system for 28 years and she spent her summers being and wonderful mother and grandmother.

Norma devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, camping, boating, and travelling to spend time with her children and grandchildren. Norma was an avid swimmer and fitness walker. She attended the Topeka Bible Church and Bible study at Brookwood Covenant Church. She was a member of the Philomethian Club of Topeka and the Topeka Teachers Association.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents and ex-husband.  She is survived by her brother, Ronald (Helen) Fischer (Lincoln); her five children: Duane (Laura) Sohl, Jeanine (Ilan) Eldar, Glen (Terri) Sohl, Martha (Tom)
Bertolino, and Mark Sohl.; Grandchildren: Nicole Sohl, Bryan and Michael
Bertolino, Koren and Talore Eldar, Sarah Bloxsom, Laura (Donald) Gloeckner,
and Alex McKinsey and six great-grandchildren; nieces: Lorraine, Joyce and
Lynda Fischer and nephew Timothy Fischer and five cousins in Lincoln.

Donna Mae Thomas, 73, of Carter Lake, Iowa died Wednesday June 8, 2011. Born in Omaha, Nebraska on September 25, 1937 to Donald and Mary (Drobina) Thomas.  Survived by three daughters, one son, five brothers and one sister. 

A service will be held at the Carter Lake Improvement Club, Carter Lake, Iowa, Friday, June 10, 2011 from 1 to 4 pm for family and friends.

Vodraska, Robert

Robert Elton Vodraska, 40, of Lincoln, died Saturday March 5, 2011.
He was born February 9, 1971 in Richland, Washington to Robert Vit and Nancy (Spangler) Vodraska.  Robert served in the U.S. Army.  He was a member of N.R.A.; The Society of Creative Anachronisms and Eagle Scout

Robert is survived by his wife, Serina Vodraska of Lincoln; daughters, Natausha, Susan and Nicole Vodraska of Lincoln; mother, Nancy Vodraska of Lincoln; brothers and sister-in-law, Don and LeAnn Vodraska of Lincoln; John Vodraska of Lincoln; sister, Susan Vodraska of Olathe, Kansas.

Preceded in death by his father and nephew.  Memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Lincoln Army Air Field Regimental Chapel 4621 N.W. 48th Street, Lincoln with Pastor Mike Benischek officiating. Vogel, Ann Elizabeth

Ann Elizabeth Vogel, 32, of Lincoln, died Thursday May 19, 2011. She was born on July 18, 1978 at St. Paul, Neb. to Jim and Cathy (Stobbe) Vogel. Ann moved from Dannebrog, Neb. to the Airpark area of Lincoln with her family at the age of four. She attended kindergarten at Arnold Elementary School, then attended St. Mary's Elementary and Pius X High School. Ann graduated high school in 1996. She attended Quincy University in Quincy, Ill. for 2 years before returning to Lincoln to graduate from Nebraska Wesleyan University in the year of 2000. After graduation she worked for the Appleseed Center for Law in the Public Interest for 3 years. Ann moved to North Carolina to enroll at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Social Work. Upon receiving her Master's Degree in Social Work, Ann moved to Washington, D.C. and worked for Families USA, a non-profit organization dedicated to health care reform. In 2008, she re-located to Lacrosse, WI. working for Citizen Action of Wisconsin a community organization group dedicated to achieving social, economic, and environmental justice. In 2009, Ann returned to Lincoln and worked for the State of Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services until the time of her death. Ann enjoyed hockey games, UNC Basketball, and attending No Coast Derby Girls games.

Ann is survived by her parents, Jim and Cathy Vogel of Pleasant Dale, Neb.; her brother, Mark of Chapman, Neb., and her brother and sister-in-law, Luke and Jeannine, and nephew, Liam, of Laurel, Md. Ann is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

Visitation will be held from 12-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, in the Chapel at Wadlow Rozanek Funeral Home 5200 'R' Street, with family greeting from 5-7 p.m., and a gathering to celebrate Ann's life at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2011, at North American Martyrs Catholic Church 1101 Isaac Drive, Lincoln, with Father Brian Connor officiating. Burial will be at Lincoln Memorial. Memorials may be given to the family for future designation or donor's choice.










Walters, Jane Imogene

Jane Imogene Walters, 86, of Lincoln, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2011. She was born in Axtell, Kan. on August 25, 1925 to Sidney and Mary (Gossin) Sharpe. Jane graduated high school at Pawnee City, Nebraska and attended Peru State College than went on to Beauty School in Omaha. Jane was married to Clayton Walters on December 31, 1945. She was a Beautician at Bens Beauty Shop and Gold's, Miller & Paine and Dillard's for over 40 years. She was a volunteer at Saint Elizabeth Hospital and the Veterans Hospital. Jane was a member of American Legion Auxiliary.

Jane is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Janice (Clark) Gall, of Eustis, Neb.; Delores (George) Chmielewski, of Lincoln; Beverly (Warren) Anderson, of Aurora, Neb.; brothers and spouse, John Sharpe, of Pawnee City, Neb.; Wendell (Evelyn) Sharpe, of Albia, Iowa; sister, M. Rosalie Kennec, of Yutan, Neb.; brother -in-law, Bill Merchant, of Tulsa, Okla.; sisters-in-law, Kathy Sharpe Yuba, Calif.; Betty Sharpe, Table Rock, Neb.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clayton Walters, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral Service will be held 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at Saint John the Apostle Church, 7601 Vine Street, Lincoln, with Father Lyle M. Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held 12-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at Wadlow Rozanek Funeral Home, 5200 'R' Street, Lincoln, with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. Burial will be at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for Saint John the Apostle Church.








Waltman, Mary Lou

Mary L. Waltman, 59, of Lincoln, died after a long struggle with heart disease on Monday January 31, 2011. She was born in Omaha on November 30, 1951 to Wilber and Addie (Murphy) Harlow. Mary graduated from Ralston High School, Ralston, and attended the Grand Island School of Business. Mary worked all her life until being disabled by Coronary Artery Disease, heart problems, Fibromyalgia and Arthritis. She was as active as her body allowed her to be caring for her pets, puttering in her flower beds, and gardens until the last few years. She has grown the most beautiful Weeping Willow tree possible from a little twig. Mary had a lifelong love of all animals. She cared for stray cats up till her death and maintained our home up till the last moments. This most beautiful person in the world was married to Stephen R. Waltman on April 17, 1971 in Omaha. They resided in Grand Island; Chadron; and Lincoln.

Mary is survived by her husband Steve; much loved children: daughter, Tracy Waltman of Omaha; daughter and son-in-law Stephanie and Arthur Campbell of Lincoln; son and daughter-in-law Stephen "Isaac" and Trudy Waltman of Lincoln; beloved grandsons and granddaughters, Emil, AJ, Dendae, and Maron; great granddaughter, Tinsley, all of Lincoln; sisters, Anne, Ruth Ellen, Edna, Addie; brother, Edward and families. Preceded in death by parents, two brothers.

Cremation, no visitation at Mary's request. Inurnment service will be in Brooks, Iowa in the family plot, April 17, 2011 at Mary's request. Memorials may be directed to the family for the grandchildren's college fund.

Lonnie Eugene Warburton, 63, of Lincoln, died Friday, June 3, 2011. Served in the U.S. Navy.

Weiss, Sheila Patricia

Sheila Patricia Weiss slipped away peacefully into eternal rest on Friday May 13, 2011 at Hamilton Manor in Aurora, Nebraska. She was born December 23, 1935 in Hartford, Connecticut to Myron and Frances Campbell.

In 1957 Sheila married Harold Reiser in Butte, Nebraska where they spent twenty five years raising a family. In 1979 Sheila earned a Bachelors Degree in nursing at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD. She worked in both Nebraska, South Dakota and North Carolina as a Registered Nurse. 

While in South Dakota Shelia met and married John Scheffer in 1988 and they lived in Custer. In 1992 Sheila moved to Philadelphia, where she helped care for her grandchildren and worked as a Home Health Care Nurse.

In 1994 she moved to Stafford, Virginia to continue caring for her grandchildren and volunteered as a companion nurse. In Virginia, she met and married Frank Weiss. In 1999 she moved back to Nebraska.
 
Sheila was a member of the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church on Wahoo, Nebraska.  She enjoyed spending her days teaching her children and grandchildren many of her hidden talents. She had a joy for singing, playing the piano and organ, sewing, knitting and crocheting. She always shared her joy of reading and love for animals. Her recipes were delicious and her birthday cakes were absolutely awesome. Her favorite pastime was tending to her flowers, to make the world a lovelier more beautiful place to live.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to her son-in law Darryl, who cared for her as if she was his own mother. Darryl was instrumental in seeing that Shelia was comfortable.

Sheila was proceeded in death by her parents, brother Frank Campbell, husband's John Scheffer and Frank Weiss, and son James Michael Reiser.

She is survived by her daughter, Terri and Robert Hoff of Sioux Falls, SD., daughter, Hope and Les Cline of Stafford, VA., daughter, Carolyn and Darryl Barnhill of Saronville, NE., son, Randall Reiser of Rapid City, SD., and daughter, Michelle and Michael Rathe of Eagle, NE. 17 grandchildren, Bradley and Sheila Hoff, Matthew and Heather Miller, Angela Hoff, Andrew and Samantha Hoff, Tim Hoff, Whitnea, Cydnea, and Sawyer Cline, Chyanne, Daylon, Ceyenna, and Dawsyn Barnhill, James and Sarah Reiser, Jennifer Reiser, Cassidi Reiser-Hull and fiance Jesse Denton, Jorden and Gared Rathe., 7 great grandchildren, Breanne, Mikaela and Kacie Hoff, Lillian and Savannah Miller, Robbie Reiser, and Monroe Denton.

Wennekamp, Randy Jay

Randy Jay Wennekamp, 48, of Lincoln, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2011. He was born in Jamestown, N.D. on May 25, 1963 to Eugene Floyd and Lillian (Miller) Wennekamp. He had worked as a Senior Network Support Specialist for Ameritas Life Insurance Company.

Randy is survived by his daughters, Jessica Wennekamp, Jenna Wennekamp, Anna Wennekamp, all of Lincoln; brother, Curt Wennekamp, of Humphrey; sisters, Sandra Umstead, of Milford, Kim Wennekamp, of Louisville, Ky.; ex-wife, Irene Wennekamp, of Lincoln. Randy was preceded in death by his parents.

Pauline Virginia Whited, 94, of Lincoln passed away Saturday March 5, 2011.
She was born December 14, 1916 in Lincoln, to Robert O. and Georgie J. (Loomis) Doan. She was a member of Eastern Star, Venus Chapter of Cortland, and Daughters of Union Veterans.

Pauline was survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dean A. and Sandra Whited of Fargo, North Dakota; Lawrence E. Jr. “Larry” and Carol Whited of Slidell, Louisiana; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy McKay, Alvo, Nebraska.

Preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence E. Whited, brother, Clinton Doan and sister, Roberta Rasp.

Graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011 at Lincoln Memorial Park 6700 S. 14th Street, Lincoln.

Wiese, Jeanne Marie

Jeanne Marie Wiese, 88, of Lincoln, passed away Sunday February 20, 2011. Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. on May 2, 1922 to Bruno and Nellie (Yackiel) Quinn. She was married to Michael G. Wiese who died May 21, 1996. Jeanne was a retired Executive Secretary of Swanson-Sinkey-Ellis Advertising Agency. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. 

She is survived by her brother-in-law, Harold Wiese of Lincoln; sisters-in-law, Lucile Thaller of Lincoln; Virginia Quinn of Toms River, N.J.; Joan Mikosz of Wrightstown, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, one sister.

Wilger, Jay Steven

Jay Steven Wilger, 48, of Lincoln, died Tuesday June 7, 2011. Born in Lincoln on June 17, 1962 to Kenneth and Deloris (Kozisek) Wilger. Jay was a lifelong Lincoln resident.

Survived by his mother, Deloris Wilger of Lincoln; son, Noah Wilger of Lincoln; daughter, Kaelynn Wilger of Lincoln; sister and brother-in-law, Julie and Bernie Jelinek of Valparaiso; and nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his father.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 10, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1720 Lake Street, Lincoln, with Father Sullivan Celebrant. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Lincoln. Wilken, Alvin John

Alvin John Wilken, 86, Lincoln, died April 6, 2011, at Tabitha Hospice after a brief illness. Born September 29, 1924, in Adams to Albert and Martha (Hoefling) Wilken. Graduated from Adams High School in 1943. He ran the Wilken Family Gas Station in Adams prior to and after his military service during World War II. He served in the United States Army for 2 1/2 years including seven months in combat with Company G, 411th Regiment, 103rd Infantry Division. He served in France, Germany, Austria and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and the Expert Combat Infantry Badge.

Alvin married his High School Sweetheart, Betty M. Gana, October 1, 1945 in Kansas. They moved to California where they resided from l946-1951. Alvin worked for a brief time as a railroad agent and later at Campbell's Soup Company. They returned to Nebraska where they farmed South of Hickman. After moving to Lincoln Alvin worked at Cohn Electric Motor Service from 1953 until his retirement in 1989. Member of I.B.E.W. for 52 years. Resident of Legacy Estates where he met many wonderful new friends. Loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend. Enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, traveling and was an avid sports fan.

Survivors: Children and Spouses, Steven and Shari Wilken, Douglas and Jody Wilken, Pamela and Gary Jones of Lincoln, Calvin and Becky Wilken of Grand Junction, Colo.; nine Grandchildren and ten Great-Grandchildren. Beloved and faithful dog Max; Sister, Frjeda Bettenhausen of Lodi, Calif.; Sister-in-law, Ruth Hibbert of Adams, and Brother-in-law, Ervin Gana of Lincoln; Special neighbors, Tim and Jody Brodd, Ralph and Ruth Beach. Preceded in death by beloved Wife Betty, Parents, Brothers Ernest and Roy Wilken, Sisters Alma Shipp and Tilda Sachtleben.

Williams, Catina Rae

Catina Rae Williams, 39, of Lincoln, died Friday, November 18, 2011. She was born in Fremont, Neb. on November 10, 1972 to Aaron and Alvina (Schultz) Williams. She was a volleyball coach and was involved in her children's sports activities. Catina was a loving mother and grandmother. She owned her own day care center.

Catina is survived by her son, LeeAaron Berks; daughters, Natasha Williams; Aulana Williams; Olivia Berks, all of Lincoln; stepbrother, Jason Williams, of Hayward, Calif.; 2 granddaughters; father and stepmother, Aaron and Kathleen Williams, of Bartlett, Neb.; mother, Alvina Williams, of Lincoln; grandparents, Charles and Helen Rouse, of Central City, Neb.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins. Preceded in death by her brother, Rodney Williams and grandparents.

William Frederick Zabel, 60, of Ashland, died Sunday, September 18, 2011. He was born in Fremont on June 20, 1951 to Orville and Irene (Matzke) Zabel. William was a co-owner of Service Linc.

William is survived by his wife, Marnie Zabel of Ashland; sons and daughters-in-law, Nathaniel and Randi Zabel, Nick and Jesi Zabel, Willy and Chloe Zabel, all of Lincoln; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Janet Zabel of Chicago; Bob and Mary Kay Zabel of Minneapolis; eight grandchildren, Ian, Chloe, Hudson, Lathan, Rylee, Pacey, Mya and Jordyn Zabel. Preceded in death by his parents.
