Kenneth Warren Urbanec, age 59, passed away Friday, September 7, 2012 at his home in Lincoln, Nebr, from leukemia.
He was born September 24, 1952, in Pender, Nebr to Fred and Vernel (Jahde) Urbanec. Kenny attended Northeast High School, graduating in 1971. He joined the U.S. Air Force 1971-1975.
Kenny moved to Lincoln and started a lifelong career at Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad where he worked for nearly forty years, at Havelock Shops and Lincoln Repair Track, where he was known simply as “Urb”. He had one of the best attendance records, hardly ever missing work.
He was a forty year member of Brotherhood of Railway Carman’s Union and was on the Board of Liberty First Credit Union.
Kenny’s favorite “watering hole” was Mary’s place, a local bar not far from work. He could be found there many afternoons after work doing two things he enjoyed most-having a beer and playing Keno, which he was quite lucky at. He also enjoyed fishing and cherished deer hunting with bow and arrow and of course a beer afterwards.
He grew up in Pender with his brother Marlin who he helped care for him until his illness prevented him from doing so.
Kenny was preceded in death by his father, Fred Urbanec; mother, Vernel (Jahde) Urbanec. Survivors include daughter Stacy Bielinski and son-in-law, (Sean) Bielinski of Lincoln, son Kyle Urbanec of Houston, Texas, brothers Marlin Urbanec of Lincoln, and Ron Urbanec of Washington, and longtime companion Holly Horsham of Lincoln, and grandchildren Ashton Bielinski & Aleshia Urbanec.
Memorial Services will be held 1:00P.M. Monday, September 10, 2012 at Wadlow Rozanek 5200 R ST Lincoln, NE. Rev. Wayne Alloway officiating.
